On December 16, the Northern China Regional Coordination Center of the UNIDO Network of Investment and Technology Promotion Offices (Beijing, China) (UNIDO ITPO Beijing for short) was inaugurated in the Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone, marking the first time that a UN organization has settled in Zhengzhou. Xu Liyi, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Henan Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Zhengzhou Municipal Committee, and Wu Yabin, Director of UNIDO ITPO Beijing jointly unveiled the plaque of the Center.
Established in 1966 and headquartered in Vienna, Austria, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is a specialized agency in the United Nations system to advance sustainable industrial development and international industrial cooperation. It mainly engages in poverty reduction, trade capacity building, energy conservation and environmental protection, and aims to promote economic growth, full employment and innovation through sustainable and inclusive industrial development. As of 2019, the UNIDO had 170 members, including developed, newly industrialized and less developed countries. Founded in 1990, the UNIDO ITPO Beijing is a resident agency of the UNIDO with diplomatic status in China. It is also one of the nine offices of the UNIDO ITPO in the world. For years, it is committed to pushing forward with bringing in, going global, and domestic inter-regional industrial transfer and replacement of old growth drivers with new ones. The Northern China Regional Coordination Center is the first resident agency officially established by the United Nations in Henan Province. It will attract more foreign investments and technologies to Zhengzhou, upgrade growth drivers and industrial development in Zhengzhou and even the northern region, widen Zhengzhou's opening to the outside world, promote high-quality economic development, and create new development patterns.
